Order Book Explained for Indian Stocks

Understand order books, order inflow, execution, cancellation risk and why an order-book number alone is incomplete.

Order books are common in capital-goods, engineering, defence, infrastructure and project businesses. They represent contracted or awarded work subject to the company's disclosed definition.

Order inflow vs backlog

New orders during a period are not the same as the total executable backlog. Always check the company's definition and date.

Execution

Compare backlog with revenue and capacity to estimate how quickly it can translate into sales.

Quality

Check customer concentration, margins, payment terms, cancellation clauses, working-capital needs and execution history.

PirePoint rule

Recent order announcements are evidence of activity; they should not automatically be presented as a complete verified order-book figure.
