How to Read Shareholding Pattern

Learn promoter, FII, DII, public and other ownership categories and how to interpret changes.

Shareholding data is a dated snapshot. It becomes more useful when you compare several filing periods.

Promoters

Track holding percentage and pledged/encumbered shares where disclosed.

Institutions

FII/FPI and DII movements can provide context but should not be treated as a buy or sell signal by themselves.

Public holding

Review concentration, liquidity and major shareholder changes where available.

What matters

Investigate large ownership changes and reconcile them with corporate actions, acquisitions, sales and capital issuance.
